Types of Bipolar
There are different types of bipolar that all have mania and depression as the most common symptoms. The types of bipolar may be classified into severe or mild, with manic and depressive episodes varying in intensity. Gaining information on the most common types of bipolar may also determine the kind of treatment that may be given.
The types of bipolar may vary in intensity but they all may be considered as ailments that may last for lifetimes. The types of bipolar that are usually observed in people are classified into:
1. Bipolar I
Bipolar I is one of the types of bipolar that is characterized by extreme manic episodes as compared to depressive episodes. Most patients who have bipolar I may experience both mania and depression, but the period of manic episodes last longer and are more severe than depression.
Delusions are more often than not observed in people who have bipolar I as well as paranoia, violence, etc. Among the types of bipolar, having a bipolar I disorder may require hospitalization for the safety of the patient and the people around the person who has bipolar I disorder.
2. Bipolar II
Another one of the types of bipolar is the bipolar II disorder. People who have bipolar II have more extreme episodes of depression and only mild manic episodes.
The bipolar II disorder may be the mildest among the types of bipolar, but is said to have a higher suicidal rate as compared with Bipolar I. This may be because most bipolar II patients feel symptom free, thus stop taking medications which may then lead to losing control over the symptoms.
3. Mixed Bipolar
Just like the other types of bipolar, having a mixed bipolar disorder involves both manic episodes and depressive episodes; the only difference is that the two episodes occur all at the same time. The patient may feel very energetic but may also have feelings of anger, irritability, etc. This is one of the most dangerous types of bipolar that must be treated immediately.
Having any of the types of bipolar is quite difficult to live with. Aside from being educated on the symptoms, knowing the specific treatment necessary for the types of bipolar is a big help to combat the said ailments.
